BLK BLC & BLK BLX QUAD VCA MODULES
As ancient Greeks said "you can never have enough of VCAs" here are two new Ultra Compact 6 hp Quad VCA / Voltage Controlled Mixers.
Blk bLc is a quad linear VCA and Blk bLX is quad linear/exponential VCA with curve response settings.
Both benefits from the strange new "Advanced Calibration Amplifier Block" effect that can be engaged by pressing ACAB button.
VCAs use High Performance chips and like all good quality VCAs they're dead silent in absence of CV signals, so no unwanted cross-talks, "bleed-through" offset voltages, etc.
Both can perform as VC mixers since the channels are connected in cascaded way so the outputs will send out the mix of previous channels if they're not patched individually. That way, for exemple, you'll have a summed mix of all four channels by using the forth output and if ACAB button is pressed it will be applied on the whole mix - or, if the channels are used individually, it will be applied only on the fourth channel.
Equally, both VCAs are DC coupled so they're convenient for both audio & cv use.
Both modules have CV attenuators for all four VCA channels, have two offset attenuators for first two channels and, in difference of the linear Blk bLc, there are two more mini potentiometers on Blk bLX and they serves to smoothly transit from linear (on the right) to exponential response (on the left) for the channels 1 and 2. For the channels 3 and 4 this can be set via trimmers on the back of the module.
"And what happens when I press ACAB ?" Well, be aware: in difference of the clean mix when not in use -once ACAB button pressed it will smash your drums into peaces and boost and distort your synth lines!
It works just like on/off button but the intensity and the overall impact of the effect can be de facto controlled by the VCA controls- manually or by the use of CVs (LFOs or envelopes for ex.) as it will act differently depending on gain/amplitude level and type of signal. (if you find it too loud/agressive & noisy you can attenuate it via small trimmer pot inside the module with a small screwdriver)
Check the MM videos from IG down here to get an idea :)
First one shows the combo with ENA Quad envelope using short envelopes and mostly dry exemples to highlight clarity & precision of this combo, the second deals with ACAB function :)
The new VCAs will be available for orders from July14 here and quickly at MM dealers in USA and UK.
